Joint statement between the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the European Commission's Energy Agency (ENER), and the US Department of Energy (DOE) on future cooperation in hydrogen and fuel cell technology. Today, METI, ENER, and DOE affirmed their common desire to strengthen trilateral cooperation in hydrogen and fuel cell technology.
During the G20 Energy Transition and Global Sustainable Development Environment Ministers' Meeting, Dan Brouillette, Deputy Secretary of Energy of the United States, Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, as well as the EU Climate Action Commissioner and Energy Miguel Ca ñ ete, signed the following joint statement on future cooperation in hydrogen and fuel cell technology.
METI, ENER, and DOE (hereinafter referred to as the "organizations") have a strong interest in hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, which can bring benefits to the energy sector, economy, and environment. Hydrogen and fuel cells are part of a broad and sustainable energy mix, and can be key to opening up opportunities and value in all sectors from transportation to industry, as well as achieving reliable, clean, and affordable electricity.
For over thirty years, these organizations have been world leaders in funding hydrogen and fuel cell programs, with the aim of strengthening unity and accelerating the development of sustainable hydrogen and fuel cell technologies worldwide. These organizations recognize the importance of reducing the cost of hydrogen due to its affordability and reliability. These organizations firmly believe that the cooperation they envision can promote the expansion of international cooperation and help expand hydrogen in the global economy. While continuing to collaborate with many countries through other international partnerships and partnerships, organizations believe that there are many benefits to be gained through cooperation.
To this end, various organizations plan to explore how to better initiate and implement an effective hydrogen cooperation framework consistent with their energy dialogue, possibly by preparing for the second Hydrogen Energy Ministerial Conference through the development of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC). It will be held on September 25th, 2019. Each organization plans to work together with other countries to accelerate the progress of global hydrogen technology. The envisioned MOC will promote the development of specific actions through cooperation in the following possible areas listed in the "Tokyo Statement" summarized by the Chairman at the Hydrogen Energy Ministerial Meeting held in Tokyo on October 23, 2018.
